Exponent Beauty—a clinical-grade skincare brand rooted in precision-dosed, refillable serums—had the innovation to disrupt the category but lacked a marketing infrastructure built for scale.

While managing advertising in-house, they faced issues many fast-growing DTC brands encounter: improperly configured Meta and Google business accounts, unsynced Shopify pixels, unclear reporting, and internal debates over who their true customer really was. They didn’t need a new agency of record; they needed marketing mechanics.

Left Off Madison stepped in through a short-term project sprint designed to diagnose and repair, not reinvent. We lifted the hood, audited every platform, fixed broken pixels, re-established attribution, and rebuilt the digital plumbing required for accurate performance signals. Just as critically, we replaced assumptions with evidence.

While parts of the client team believed their audience was broadly diverse, our data revealed that their core buyers were predominantly White and Asian women deeply engaged in skincare rituals and willing to pay for potency. Over time, sales confirmed the insight. The brand didn’t need broader reach; it needed sharper focus.

With infrastructure restored and insight clarified, we rebuilt Exponent’s media strategy and creative foundation, crafting campaigns aligned to actual consumer behavior rather than wishful targeting. After six months of recalibrating systems, relaunching media, and stabilizing growth signals, we did what many agencies won’t—we handed it all back. A clean engine, tuned and ready, returned to the in-house team with clarity, control, and a clear path to scale.

For CMOs, this wasn’t just a rescue—it was proof that the right sprint can change a brand’s trajectory. We don’t have to stay forever to make an impact; sometimes, fixing what’s broken is the fastest route to growth.
